Digital Education in Cameroon: The Case of GHS Great Soppo

In a world where technology is rapidly reshaping education, Cameroon is beginning to see real progress in integrating digital tools into the classroom. One powerful example comes from the quiet hills of Buea, in the Southwest Region, where Government High School (GHS) Great Soppo is leading the way.

Miya Academy Comes to Great Soppo

In 2024, GHS Great Soppo proudly became the first school to install the desktop version of Miya Academy, a digital learning platform proudly developed in Cameroon. What sets Miya Academy apart is that it works without an internet connection, making it ideal for schools in regions with limited or unreliable connectivity.

With this technology, students and teachers can now access interactive lessons, exercises, and multimedia learning resources tailored specifically to the Cameroonian national curriculum.

Visionary Leadership from Mme Mojoko

This landmark step was made possible thanks to the initiative of Mme Mojoko, the principal of GHS Great Soppo. Recognizing the importance of digital skills in modern education, she reached out to the Miya Academy team in Yaoundé and invited them to install the system and conduct a full training session for her staff.

Her leadership and proactive approach ensured that not only was the technology installed, but that teachers were empowered to use it effectively. For many educators at GHS Great Soppo, this was their first hands-on experience with a digital learning system, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“This is a big step for our school. We are now part of the digital age, and it’s exciting to see our teachers embracing it,” said Mme Mojoko during the installation event.

Made in Cameroon, for Cameroonian Classrooms

Miya Academy is more than just an edtech tool—it’s a homegrown solution designed to meet local needs. The platform is bilingual, supporting both English and French, and its content is aligned with the official school syllabus in Cameroon.

Its offline capabilities make it a practical and scalable solution for schools across the country, especially in rural or underconnected areas.

A Model for Others to Follow

GHS Great Soppo’s digital transformation is already inspiring other schools to consider similar initiatives. It’s a model of how visionary leadership, community support, and locally-developed technology can come together to improve education outcomes.

This story serves as a reminder that innovation doesn’t always start in the big cities—sometimes, it begins in schools like GHS Great Soppo, where educators are determined to give their students the best possible future.

Conclusion

As Cameroon continues to invest in education and digital infrastructure, the example of GHS Great Soppo offers hope and a practical path forward. With platforms like Miya Academy and leaders like Mme Mojoko, the future of digital education in Cameroon looks brighter than ever.
